In celebration of 100 years of indepence, the Mexican congress passed a law in 1921 to mint its first 1 ounce gold coin named Centenario most commonly known as the 50 pesos gold coin. The 1921 Centenario or 50 peso gold coin was the first time Mexico minted a 1 oz gold coin in its history. Made of out of 90% gold of .900 fineness and a 10% copper. It is to this day one of the most durable gold coin ever made. Widely known for its beauty by collector and investors alike.
The Centenario gold coin displays on its observe the goddess Nike, an image commonly known as a “Winged Victory” carrying a laurel wreath in her right hand and a segment of broken chains in her left hand. Two of Mexico’s most well known volcanoes can be seen behind the image of Winged Victory. The date 1821 on one side of the coin indicates the year of Mexico independence, while the year on the right will designate the year the coin was minted. The reverse side of the coin displays an eagle balanced on a cactus while holding a serpent in its beak and the Mexican coat of arms.
